Attacks on whites show racial prejudice to be a contributing factor

Recently an Afrikaans Sunday newspaper published an account of the Pieterse family's trauma nearly two years ago outside Swartruggens in the North-West; an ordeal inflicted by three attackers.

Daleen Pieterse's husband was tortured with a hot kettle, stabbed and finally strangled with shoelaces. She and her 10-year-old son were viciously assaulted with molten plastic; her calf muscle was lacerated, clothes cut off and a knife forced between her legs. Her 3-year-old daughter was threatened with abduction and rape.

As in so many of these crime incidents accompanied by murder, sadism and sexual assault, the assailants were black and the victims white.

As with the Skielik shootings, it is impossible to miss the racial hate component, although such violent white racism is now an exception and mobilises massive media and government condemnation.

But the Pieterse's horror, although mirrored by numerous other occurrences, received just standard press attention, for anti-white "race crime" seldom prompts loud official condemnation.

Open Letter from Rudi Prinsloo, of Die Nuwe Suid Afrika; to John Minto, New Zealands Anti-Apartheid Activist Expert, who only recently visited South Africa for the first time -- doesn't seem to take much 'expertise' to be an 'expert' in New Zealand.

Mr John Minto,

You are a true activist in every sense of the word. You have dedicated your life to the causes you believe in, and I for one can tell from observation, that you are truly passionate about your beliefs and that you work tirelessly to uplift the groups and people that you support. This is the mark of a real man and I respect you for that. Interestingly enough, both friends and enemies of the late Eugene Terre'blanche have attributed the same qualities to him.

Having been at the forefront of the anti-apartheid struggle movement in New Zealand since the early days, it is no wonder that New Zealanders turn to you for moral guidance whenever political and social events in South Africa draw the attention of the international media.

It is for the above reasons that I am writing this letter to you because I believe that it places a great responsibility on you to give New Zealanders an accurate and balanced report. What follows are some undiluted facts about the current dire situation in South Africa and around the murder of Eugene Terre'blanche.

1) The youth leader of the ruling ANC party, Julius Malema, has been, and continues to promote, extreme hatred amongst his followers against the already marginalised Afrikaner minority by his public speeches and the singing of controversial songs which include the words "Kill the Boer".

2) The ANC leadership refuses to condemn these actions, and are actively trying to overturn a court ruling banning the song.

3) As a very small minority, the Afrikaners have no means of defence as they have been largely disarmed and have no political influence any more.

Dear Mr Julius “Motormouth” Malema

At the thought of writing to you, I find myself feeling guilty that I may be dignifying your existence in the South African political landscape. I have often dismissed your utterances with the famous English idiom that says “Empty vessels make most noise”; if you visit your grade four English studies you should be able to find what I am talking about. However in light of what has transpired in our country and in Zimbabwe over the weekend I am left with out choice but to write to you.

Stupidity and obsession with power have a tendency of creating heroes out of people one does not know where they were found to even begin with. I may be too late to warn you against this, but allow me to address the challenges that you pose not only for yourself but for the youth of this country and the global image of South Africa alike. One political scholar defines politics as “thought controlled” and this is done through the media. I must applaud you for having known how to shoot off your mouth in order to get the attention of the media. Instead of ignoring you, the media made a good job of carving a somebody out of you and your disdainful tendencies though I, along with many other South African youth, believe that you were never worthy of the spotlight in the first place. After having noticed the kind of media attention that comes with phrases such as “We will kill for Zuma”, you then became lustful over the attention of the media and now you have become in indescribable post infatuation with it.

Way back in 2002-03, I met an incredible man, in a small town in the Northern Cape. He was my boss, and we would have endless political conversations, after work. He had been in the SADF police, on the Namibian border as a sharpshooter, a member of the Presidential VIP guard who guarded P.W. Botha and a member of the AWB. He was also an assassin for hire, about one of the 14 best assassins in South Africa at the time; so good he was occassionally hired by no less than the Freemasons. He was one of the most interesting and gentlemanly men I have ever met; but he was also someone whom I would never cross. This is a common theme I have found with honourable men; they do not hide who they are, they look you in the eye -- eyeball-to-eyball as Ollie North would call it -- and tell you their opinion, to your face. The only lawyers I have ever come across who value honour, are military lawyers. Honourable men, from what I can gather, live in accordance with the principles of a military code of honour: chivalry.

But if we strip chivalry of its romantic overtones and literary hyperbole, we find a code of conduct that held currency among the military elite of the era. At the core of this code stood an ideal that was certainly not characteristic to the Middle Ages alone: ‘[c]hivalry was often no more, and no less, than the sentiment of honour in its medieval guise.’ Thus to speak of chivalry is to speak of a military code of honour, which already sounds far less archaic. Honour, moreover, has played a key role in military thinking over millenia, so it does not seem out of place to talk about it with reference to modern warfare.

HARARE - South Africa’s ruling party ANC is planning Zimbabwean style land invasions after the FIFA 2010 World Cup, amid reports Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF and War Veterans Association will provide crucial support for the programme, sources in Zimbabwe said on Monday.

Controversial African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) President, Julius Malema, is set to visit Zimbabwe for a series of meetings with Zanu PF counterparts. The crucial meeting will go a long way in exchanging ideas and preparatory stages for both logistics and mobilisation for sporadic land invations.

A member of the Zanu PF security department told our reporter that the basis of Malema’s visit to Harare is a follow up to a secret discussion between President Mugabe and his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma, three weeks ago.

The source said when South African President Jacob Zuma visited Zimbabwe during the coalition talks between Zanu PF and the MDC, he discussed at length, matters ranging from the British media’s personal attacks on his private life during the recent visit to the United Kingdom and the need to expedite South African land reform.

It is at this stage that Mugabe converted Zuma into his camp, and the two leaders agreed to join hands in actively assisting each other in the land reform and indigenisation process.

This week, a high-level delegation in the South African security forces, intelligence and media with close links to the ruling party ANC are travelling to Zimbabwe and they will spend three months training at the Zimbabwe National Army’s Staff College.

WITH the population of Africa predicted to double within the next 30 years, the economic future of its people is set to be very bleak unless something is done to combat the uncontrolled growth rate.

Africa’s fertility rate has been on the increase in recent years out of pace with the continent’s ability to feed the new mouths or to put in place the physical and social services that will ensure a reasonable quality of life for the people. In order to tackle this problem the time has come to seek new avenues through which the message will reach the villages that unless the present generation reduces its reproductive propensity tomorrow’s children will face a very bleak future.

According to the Population Reference Bureau (2001) the estimated population of Africa in 2001 was 810 million people. This suggests an increase of 733 million people in the 501 years between 1500 and 2001 an average of 1.46 million people per year or 0.45% annual growth rate.

However, between 2000 and 2001 alone the African population increased by 20 million or 2.4% in spite of the scourge of HIV/AIDS! Earlier between 1975 and 2001 the population doubled from 402 to 820 million people. Thus while African population growth rates were low in the past the rates have gone up considerably during the last 20 years.

Immigration comes at hefty price

The economic effects of immigration have become a hot-button issue in Dutch politics. The mere mention of the subject is often greeted with suspicion and loathing. But that didn’t stop scholar Jan van de Beek from writing his doctoral thesis on the issue. In his PhD research, which he defended at the University of Amsterdam on Tuesday, he answered two related questions: what kind of economic consequences did mass immigration to the Netherlands between 1960 and 2005 have, and why is it such a taboo to study the economic effects of these immigrants?

Van de Beek has come to conclusions the Netherlands may not like. Since the 1970s, little research has been done into the economic effects of immigration, for fear of playing into the hand of the xenophobic right. As recently as last year, populist politician Geert Wilders asked the Dutch cabinet to calculate the net costs or benefits imposed on society by immigrants. Cabinet refused to do so, which led to uproar amongst several opposition parties. The minister responsible called it “improper” to reduce citizens’ contribution to society “to a profit-loss analysis”.

The reluctance to study the matter has done well to conceal some unpleasant facts, Van de Beek claims. For one, the Dutch policy of recruiting workers from outside of Europe in the 1960s needlessly delayed the modernisation of Dutch industry. As the Dutch economy was modernised in the 1980s, many immigrants were laid off and became dependent on welfare. Even today, the Dutch welfare state mainly attracts immigrants that impose a net cost on the Dutch economy, Van de Beek found.

Van de Beek is a mathematician and a cultural anthropologist. He is interested in social problems and has a soft spot for numbers. “In 1999, I was writing my master’s thesis about Dutch asylum policy,” he said in an interview. “I wanted to devote a chapter to the economic aspects of the matter, because the asylum debate centres mostly on numbers. To my surprise, I couldn’t find any sources. Filling this gap became the subject of my doctoral research.”
