Our Flemish friends in the Vlaams Belang marked the first anniversary of the last general election in the non-country formally known as Belgium with an interesting and provocative activity in Brussels yesterday.

Since then elections of last year Belgium has not had a government, leading the Flemish patriots to declare Flemish Independence and unveil some new street signs accordingly.

The police were co-operative at first, but went on to arrest a number of people, including Filip Dewinter.

In November 1776, Lord Dartmouth received a letter from his agent in New York, which concluded: “Presbyterianism is really at the Bottom of this whole Conspiracy, has supplied it with Vigour and will never rest, till something is decided upon it.”

Presbyterian ministers were, indeed, in the forefront in urging Americans to back the rebellion. Several of them journeyed south from Pennsylvania to persuade the Scotch-Irish in the Carolinas to join George Washington’s rebel army – raised by Congress and known as the ‘Continental Army’.

The Boer Volkstaat 10/31/16 Theses Petition and Briefing Paper was submitted to the Stamvader nations of Netherlands, France, Germany, United Kingdom, and Switzerland; and finally to the NATO Military Committee Chiefs of Defence, between 05 to 16 December 2010.

One hundred and sixty EU politicians, academics, legal experts and military officials were petitioned; the majority of whom acknowledged receipt of the petitions for their attention.

On 21 December 2010, Wouter Jurgens, the Head of the Political Section of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Pretoria responded, acknowledging receipt of the Petition, “pleading for Netherlands Citizenship for White African Refugees”.

On behalf of Ambassador de Vos, Mr. Jurgens wished to convey that the Embassy had carefully studied the petition, and responded with some specific legal recommendations, and advising on the correct procedures for applying for Refugee Status in the Netherlands, or alternatively applying for citizenship of the Netherlands.

Aristotle declared that there should be a limit to the size of states. But really, what did he know? He lived at a time when the entire population of the world was somewhere around 50 million—about the size of England today. Athens, where he lived, would have been under 100,000 people. He couldn’t even imagine a world (ours) of 6.8 billion, or a city (Tokyo) of 36 million. How is he going to help us?

He, at least, knew this much:

“Experience shows that a very populous city can rarely, if ever, be well governed; since all cities which have a reputation for good government have a limit of population. We may argue on grounds of reason, and the same result will follow: for law is order, and good law is good order; but a very great multitude cannot be orderly.”

So political units, Aristotle said, have to be limited. And it is with that understanding that we now may start contemplating what in today’s world would constitute the ideal, or optimum, size of a political state.

This is not some sort of idle philosopher’s quest but the foundation of a serious reordering of our political landscape, and a reordering such as the process of secession—indeed, only the process of secession—could provide. The U.S. provides abundant evidence that a state as large as 310 million people is ungovernable. One scholar recently said that we are in the fourth decade of the U.S. Congress’ inability to pass a single measure of social consequence. Bloated and corrupted beyond its ability to address any of the problems it has created as an empire, it is a blatant failure. So what could replace it, and at what size? The answer is the independent states of America.

Let us start by looking at modern nations to give us some clue as to population sizes that actually work.

Among the nations that are recognized models of statecraft, eight are below 500,000: Luxembourg, Malta, Iceland, Barbados, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, and San Marino.

1. In May 1994, Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the first President of "a new South Africa" which would supposedly be "non-racial", "non-sexist" and free of any discrimination of any kind whatsoever. Few, if any, new governments took office in such a spirit of international euphoria.

2. The very first section of it's Constitution states that South Africa is "a democracy founded on...human dignity, the achievement of equality and the advancement of human rights and freedoms..."

3. Sixteen years down the line under ANC-rule, South Africa is a country plagued by murder; rape; corruption; incompetent administration; unemployment; poverty; disease and a host of other evils. An objective observer cannot but label the hypocritic utterances in the Constitution as tragic jokes.

4. The very different destinies of two South African men making news-headlines is a case in point.

5. On the one hand there is Shabir Shaik; during Apartheid an engineering-student (so much for the despised system of "Bantu education") and, in later years, the businessman closely involved with the ANC. In 2005, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison on counts of fraud and corruption for his role in the multi-billion Rand deal to procure arms for poverty-stricken South Africa. After a mere two years of incarceration, the public learned that Shaik is free again; being released as a "terminally ill" man. Shortly afterwards, this same "terminally ill" man was photographed with his luxurious BMW doing shopping; playing golf; and indulging in other niceties of life. The applicable denial, followed by "settling of the dust and forever-after-hold-your-peace", was the only result.

International Court of Justice Ruling declares Kosovo's Unilateral Secession Legal under International Law

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The World Court's opinion that Kosovo's unilateral secession from Serbia was not illegal will send a chill blast through other countries that have restive minorities keen to follow Kosovo's example.

In a 9-5 nonbinding ruling on Thursday on the 2008 secession, the Hague-based court said it considered "that general international law contains no applicable prohibition of declaration of independence."

Diplomats at the United Nations said the ruling underscored the clash between two cardinal principles dear to rank-and-file U.N. member states: self-determination, in this case for Kosovo's majority Albanians, and territorial integrity, in this case, Serbia's.

From the outset, this caused a major split among the 192 U.N. nations over whether to recognize Kosovo. Sixty-nine, including the United States and many of its allies, have so far done so but the rest have not, many waiting to see what the World Court said.

Some, including Serbia and its big-power ally Russia, rejected the independence declaration. Serbia lost control over Kosovo in 1999 when NATO bombed it to halt the killing of ethnic Albanians in a two-year counter-insurgency war.

Even the European Union was divided, with Britain, France, Germany and others recognizing Kosovo but others with minority problems such as Spain and Cyprus holding back.

"It's not only the problem of Kosovo," one senior U.N. envoy said of Thursday's ruling. "It will be read in a lot of capitals on the basis not of the Kosovo case itself but of the general implications for each country."

"It's very difficult to guess what will be the reaction of the General Assembly," he added.

It was the assembly that, at Serbia's initiative, requested the court's opinion. Diplomats have been expecting Serbia to put a motion before the assembly following the court ruling calling on Kosovo's authorities to negotiate with Belgrade over the future of the former Serbian province.
