In Uncontrollable increase in informal settlements – Sexwale, City Press reports that speaking at the establishment of the chair for education in human settlements development management at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale said that the growth of informal settlements compounded the problem of meeting the demand for housing, as the “number of informal settlements is growing uncontrollably. Likewise, the populations inside these ghettos is increasing rapidly.”

In terms of solutions Minister Sexwale suggested an alleged comprehensive approach, represented by (a) the national development plan (NDP) and (b) underpinned by the presidential infrastructure coordinating commission’s strategy on infrastructure; and (c) the need to professionalize the public service, including the creation of capacity and competency, particularly at local government level. You further state that the developmental approach advocated in the NDP hinges upon an economy that is performing optimally as opposed to the current low economic growth rate and high unemployment, particularly among young people.

Earlier this year reports came out that the number of South Africans receiving social grants, will swell to over 16.7 million people over the next three years. This was according to the 2012/2013 budget tabled in Parliament.

I can honestly say that I now understand why this is. In my humble opinion, it has nothing to do with being previously disadvantaged, poverty or even the difficulty of finding employment in South Africa.

The problem points to an issue raised by Bob Collins for the Government of South Australia about 6 years ago. That automatic and unconditional welfare payments discourage people from seeking employment.

This is a sad fact, and I speak out of personal experience when I say fact. I have people in my own family receiving grant money, but are perfectly capable, smart young people. Would you want to earn your keep when you have the opportunity to raise the country's population - and get paid for it?!

Problem solving leadership requires their followers/colleagues to be committed to brutal honesty root cause problem solving. Problem solving leadership confronts another man’s controversial statements honourably and scientifically with a focus on determining the truth about the relevant issue, whatever the truth may be.

Parasitical Leadership is where so-called ‘leaders’ choose some kind of ideology to profess to practice whereby they pretend to solve problems, in order to garner themselves a following, for their own socio-political or economic benefit. Their Parasite Leadership ‘problem solving’ deliberately avoids confronting the root cause of the problem, and only focuses on addressing the symptoms of the problem; because their entire strategy is to live like a parasite off pretending to solve the problem. Put differently: The bath is overflowing, they are focussed on endlessly mopping up the floor. Anyone who suggests the root cause (tap) be turned off, is vilified. Parasite Leaders do everything to avoid confronting the suggestion of turning off the tap, which of course would mean the problem is solved, and their so-called ‘problem solving’ skils are not only no longer necessary, but their deliberate refusal to address the root cause of the problem may be questioned and expose their role as a Parasite. Finally turning off the tap would mean the end of their Parasitical ability to socio-politically and economically benefit from the unsolved problem. Johannesburg - There would be more than 4.4 million more people in South Africa if it were not for the Aids pandemic, according to a survey released on Monday.

"Currently, there are 50.6m people in the country. In the absence of Aids, this would have been 55m," said the SA Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR).

"The data shows that 31% of all deaths in 2011 were Aids-related. By 2015, this proportion will have risen to 33%. In 2025, there will be 121% more Aids deaths than there were in 2000," it said.

SAIRR said and estimated six million people would be living with HIV/Aids in 2015, double the number recorded in 2000.

Researcher Thuthukani Ndebele said HIV/Aids had resulted in a significantly slower population growth rate.

"Not only does HIV/Aids reduce life expectancy and increase mortality, but it is largely responsible for wider social ills such as orphanhood and child-headed households," he said.

The survey is based on data sourced from the Actuarial Society of South Africa and the Institute for Futures Research.
