‘Fuck corruption!’ DA MP suspended; “Kill Whites” ANC MP elected President!

South Africa continues Winning Gold's in the Hypocrisy Olympics:

Speaker Max Sisulu said he had decided to invoke the provisions of Rule 52 of the Rules of the National Assembly and suspended Kohler-Barnard for the maximum of five parliamentary working days allowed in terms of the rules.

Sisulu said: "Since the DA had left the Chamber at that stage, there was no opportunity for the chair to express itself on the matter."

"Ms Kohler-Barnard has since admitted to the media and to her party that she did indeed use the distasteful phrase."

Kohler-Barnard used the word "fuck" during the walkout of the DA and Cope in support of Cope MP Mluleki George, after he was sent out of the National Assembly after refusing to withdraw his statement that the government was steering the country into lawlessness.

Speaker suspends foul-mouthed MP

Johannesburg - The Speaker of the National Assembly on Wednesday suspended Democratic Alliance MP Dianne Kohler-Barnard for swearing in Parliament during a walkout of the DA and Cope.

Earlier on Wednesday she was suspended for five days by her own party's Chief Whip, Ian Davidson. This, shortly after ANC Chief Whip Mathole Motshekga called on the DA and Parliament to take action against Kohler-Barnard.

Sisulu said Kohler-Barnard's behaviour had been unparliamentary, unbecoming and offensive in the extreme.

Her suspension came into effect immediately.

DA suspends Dianne Kohler Barnard

Ian Davidson, Chief Whip of the Democratic Alliance
17 February 2010

After consultation with our Parliamentary Leader, Athol Trollip MP, I have today written to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Honourable Max Sisulu, to notify him that, in light of her recent conduct in the House, the DA has acted to suspend Dianne Kohler Barnard MP with immediate effect, for five days. Those five days the 17, 18, 19, 22 and 23 February. I have further request that, on the first sitting day of Parliament, after her return to duty, Ms Kohler Barnard address the House and apologise unconditionally for her words, something to which she has agreed. A copy of that apology has also been sent to the Speaker.

Her suspension means her duties as a Member of Parliament are frozen for that period and, as such, that she vacate the Parliamentary precinct and suspend her related activities.

I wish at this point to say something about the course of action the DA has chosen. First, we regard Ms Kohler Barnard’s conduct in a serious light, hence the nature of our decision. Second, we wish to distinguish our reaction to her transgression from that of the ruling party, which repeatedly endorses, defends and obfuscates about the unparliamentary conduct of its own members. The DA believes in accountability and consequences, and that this action demonstrates our commitment to those principles. We challenge the ruling party to follow suit.

And here it is worth setting out some context to incident. Consider that the DA has been accused of being “treasonous”, a crime punishable by death in many countries; that labour brokers have been labelled “slave traders” and “human traffickers”; that Tony Leon has been maliciously accused of being “a lance corporal in a helicopter above the streets of Soweto, firing tear gas and bullets at the harmless students” and, in the Western Cape legislature it was even suggested that Leon’s wife was found for him by the “Israeli secret service”. None of these statements - libellous, racist, and defamatory - were met with any serious condemnation by the ruling party and certainly no decisive action.

The ball is now in the ANC’s court. The DA has set a precedent. We have acted immediately and unambiguously. It is now time for the ruling party to adopt a similar attitude to its own repeated transgressions.

South Africa: Hunting season on white farmers still not finished

Het Vrije Volk Editorial
07 February 2010

In South Africa an average of two farmers a week are killed. On the wall of one farm attack was written in the blood of the victims, "Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer"(Shaya-maBulu in Xhosa), referring to a battle from the time of apartheid. Now it is way beyond time to eliminate that song. Can Mandela surpass his fellow Nobel laureate Arafat in sincerity and love of peace?

The Other Africans are actually Farmers abandoned. In response to the article in Trouw you read that many doubt the official statement by police that the motive could be robbery. Sometimes nothing is even stolen, or the perpetratiors have waited until the victims came home. At facebook who is kept as a victim of the slogan "Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer.

Similarly, in South Africa there are already food shortages threatening many and foods are imported from abroad. If that is true, we will soon not be surprised if South Africa will suffer the same fate as Zimbabwe.

At YouTube is a movie to find Nelson Mandela, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, where he sings “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” (Shaya-maBulu in Xhosa). According to a commenter on YouTube, the movie stems from the time that Mandela had just been released prior to negotiations with the apartheid regime over the end of apartheid and the establishment of democracy.

But even then Mandela has a moral obligation to condemn the song in no uncertain terms. We should expect more civilized and morally responsible behaviour from Mandela, than his fellow Nobel Prize winner Yasser Arafat, who deceived the world with his hudna of 1993. A little encouragement from Balkenende or Verhagen is certainly not too much to ask of Mandela and his Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) comrades to bury this song in a grave, right?
