“I am 100% completely, utterly, totally gatvol of SA self serving supercilious bullshit” - Bart Henderson, SA Inst. Corp. Fraud Mngmt

Hey, Zuma, you can’t buy your way out of this one, old chap

“I don’t have to listen to the horseshit being bandied about anymore, the never ending drivel that constitutes the never ending discourse on the subject of crime in this country. I am absolutely gatvol at the manner in which patently and blatantly vrot officials continue to enjoy the luxury of lying openly in my face and not even my face, sommer to the whole world with absolutely no shame!”

Llewellyn Kriel | Thought Leader | 24 October 2009

“I am 100% completely, utterly, totally gatvol.

“I do not under any circumstances wish to engage on the subject of fraud, bribery and corruption in this country.

“I have spent 20 years in this business and travelled the world. There is not a single man, woman or child, in this country, that has PRODUCED more work than me in the field of either research or study or handled as many pro bono cases!

“I don’t have to listen to the horseshit being bandied about anymore, the never ending drivel that constitutes the never ending discourse on the subject of crime in this country.

“I am absolutely gatvol at the manner in which patently and blatantly vrot officials continue to enjoy the luxury of lying openly in my face and not even my face, sommer to the whole world with absolutely no shame!

“I am sick and tired of the waste, the greed, the arrogance and the self serving supercilious bullshit that is spewed on a daily basis.

“I am tired of the betrayal of our constitution, I am tired of the plunder of state resources, I am sick and tired of listening to people bitch about fraud and corruption and the state of government and society and this and that while they go home and sit at the tables of the very people who commit the acts against us!

“I am sick of watching the country disintegrate into a cesspool while people whinge about how THEY should be doing something about it and yet the masses do absolutely nothing.

How long before the FIFA date-rape cocktail wears off?

The World Cup: Let's sober up

Stanley Uys says the euphoria will dissipate and the hard realities remain

Stanley Uys, Politicsweb
11 July 2010

What comes after the euphoria of the World Cup? Expectations. Will these expectations be met? No. Why not? Because if they haven't been met for the past 16 years of African National Congress rule a four-week feel-good factor is not going to make them happen now.

The erection of stadiums and facilities for the World Cup was a remarkable achievement, but it was a one-off. Also, some thought it a scandalous waste of money. Equally impressive achievements, like houses, could have been erected in the black townships where ferment has been simmering for years. What happens now? The ferment goes away? Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille says the "daily reality" for millions of South Africans is dictated by warlords. Will it, too, be gone now by next week?

The ANC clearly shared the feel-good moment that came with the games. But a (UK) Financial Times editorial which concluded that while South Africa had real problems, its success in staging the World Cup "should give it the confidence to tackle those problems with new energy," was naivety beyond belief. That the feel-good factor was a safety valve for intolerable tensions building up in the country is perfectly true, and psychologically interesting, but it remains a passing phenomenon.

Let's be real. After the prozac fix of the World Cup, comes the downer. Occasional prophets (or media praise-singers - just how many times can they change their tune?) may claim they had an experience on the road to Damascus, but not that battle-scarred ANC lot, who have slugged it out with each other for years, and are said now to be having a "dog-fight" in the presidency.

Minister Mthwethwa,

A ‘Robotoid Successful’ World-Cup-of-Bribery in Rainbow-Hypocrisy-La-La Land: Is it a ‘Xenophobia Rumours and World Cup Failure’ Thought-Crime, to ‘THINK’?

In Xenophobia reports a plot to discredit SA – minister (Sunday Times, 11 July 2010), Mr. Minister appears to imply that it is a thought-crime for citizens to think for themselves, and to base their conclusions upon evidence. Instead it sounds almost as if citizens should just blindly ‘Heil ANC’ believe what we are instructed to believe. Is that your intention, Sir?

You state that you consider the World Cup a “success”. As you are no doubt aware, ‘success’ is an abstract concept, which means many different things to different people. I am unaware what definition of the abstract word ‘success’ you are referring to. For example:

SA Gov. spending on WC Tickets reaches R 110 Million

Cash-strapped Eskom, SAA splurge on tickets

Wild spending on Cup games uncovered in parastatals, provinces

Jul 4, 2010 12:00 AM
Prega Govender, Sunday Times

Government departments, municipalities and state-owned enterprises have splurged over R110-million on World Cup tickets and hospitality packages. This is more than double what has been publicly declared.

Eskom - which is locked in last-minute negotiations to avoid a potentially disastrous strike by staff - is one of several parastatals who collectively spent a staggering R80-million. The embattled power utility alone splashed out R12-million.

South African Airways bought 1749 tickets just two months before receiving a R1.6-billion bailout from the government, in December 2008. It is the biggest spender on World Cup tickets so far, laying out R23-million.

PetroSA and Transnet jointly spent R24-million, while the Free State provincial government and the Mangaung municipality in the province collectively spent almost R22-million.

Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi yesterday slammed the spending as outrageous.

"It's the most selfish way of spending money and it is recklessness of the worst kind," he said.

World Cup of Bribery: Zug Swiss Prosecutor: ‘Senior Fifa Officials Involved in Largest Bribery Scandal in Olympic History’

Prosecutor's office links FIFA officials to bribery scandal

Senior FIFA Officials were centrally involved in the biggest and most spectacular bribery scandal in Olympic history, Swiss prosecutor's office confirms.

24 June 2010
By Jens Weinreich, Play the Game

Senior FIFA Officials were centrally involved in the biggest and most spectacular bribery scandal in Olympic history, Swiss prosecutor's office confirms.

In 2008 it was revealed that the ISL/ISMM-group - former marketing partner of FIFA, IOC and many other Olympic world federations (Athletics, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis) - had paid at least 138 million Swiss francs to senior officials to secure broadcasting contracts worth several billion US-Dollars.

For the first time ever, Swiss prosecution authorities from the city of Zug, where the ISL-group was based until its collapse in 2001, have confirmed that FIFA officials have taken bribes.

The prosecution office said in a statement today: "Foreign persons of FIFA-institutions have received provisions from the ISL/ISMM-group." Surprisingly, the word "provisions" is used rather than the more correct term for these dubious transactions: bribes.

World Cup 2010: England players have items stolen by hotel staff

• About £500 stolen, along with shirts, underwear and a medal
• Five hotel workers sentenced to three-years in prison

Associated Press
guardian.co.uk, Monday 28 June 2010 15.49 BST

Cleaning staff at the luxury hotel where England stayed during the World Cup stole football shirts, a medal and even underwear from players.

Police spokeswoman Junior Metsi said cash was taken – about £500 – but the thieves seemed most interested in souvenirs, such as a United States shirt an England player received in the customary post-match trade. A medal awarded by Fifa and underwear also disappeared during a spree which police say began on 21 June.

The thefts were not reported to police until Saturday. Metsi said police solved the case within a day, searching the homes of staff at the hotel near Rustenburg, northwest of Johannesburg.

"Everything that was stolen was recovered and they [the thieves] are now behind bars," she said.

On Sunday, a special World Cup court convicted five hotel workers of the thefts. They were sentenced to three years in prison and fined 6,000 rand (£524). Metsi would not name the players from whom items were stolen.

Crime against World Cup visitors increases

Between 30 and 40 newspaper clippings were presented as evidence of life in South Africa. “One article exhibited was published in [the Daily Sun in 2004] by Africa Ka Mahamba. [It was] entitled ‘Taking from whites is not a crime’,” Kaplan said. The article quotes the leader of the “Uhuru cultural club” as telling youngsters who attended a Human Rights Day celebration to steal from whites because “it is the right thing to do”.
[IRB Ruling: MA8-04910: Brandon Huntley]

A spate of armed attacks and robberies against foreign World Cup visitors have been reported and the numbers are increasing exponentially.

The Greek national soccer squad and a group of Chinese World Cup visitors have fallen victim to crime ahead of the opening of the tournament, police said yesterday.

Armed men held up a bus-load of Chinese tourists when they stopped in an informal settlement in Germiston and made off with the digital camera and cellphone of a Chinese man with SA citizenship. The gunman and three accomplices sped away from the scene.

This followed reports a Chinese camera crew were robbed of cash and camera equipment at gunpoint outside Soccer City stadium in Soweto after the attackers smashed their car window.

One way or other, the All Whites will be out of this hellhole in days, and we will be off with them.

To Durban, probably, or home, and quite honestly, preferably the latter in some ways.

Johannesburg is an eye-opener, in a way that makes you want to shut the eyes tight and dream of elsewhere.

This is the most dangerous dump I have ever been in.

Sepp Blatter and his superstar Fifa mates may have been right to bring the World Cup to Africa, but they will be enjoying a luxury ride.

Sepp Blatter's Great FIFA ripoff Circus

Issue # 127 May, 2010

“Ohmigod – they’re here, in the lobby, with their nasty questions,” panicked FIFA’s general secretary. Confident Sepp Blatter took charge. “Point them to the boardroom, spread them around that huge table so they can’t gang up on us. Take your tie off, look relaxed – and rumple your hair, man.”

And so Herr Blatter and the equally immaculate Jérôme Valcke ripped off their ties, glued warm smiles on their faces and bamboozled 20 foreign reporters into believing that the tickets disaster overwhelming the World Cup in South Africa was the responsibility of somebody, anybody – but not them.

That’s how it looked from the outside. The Almighty Blatter banned me from his press conferences seven years ago, so I have to work from the posed photos of the tieless tousled duo, FIFA’s delusional press release, the uncritical reporting of the 20 handpicked notebooks – and truths in the wider world. I had feared “the elephants” would be ignored. They were.

World Cup costs SA R37 Billion More

2010-06-13 22:05
Julian Rademeyer, Beeld (translated)

South Africa's bidding document, which it won, is under lock and key -- probably because the presentation details the frightening errors of the costs from curious eyes.

According to The South Africa 2010 Bid Book which won the bid for South Africa to host the World Cup, which was completed in 2003 and submitted to Fifa - it would have cost South Africa only about R3 billion to host the World Cup.

According to the latest estimates, the true cost has now risen to almost R40 billion - this after Mr. Pravin Gordhan, finance minister, stated in February that the Goverment had spent R33,1 billion on hosting the 2010 World Cup.

In contrast to the astronomical amount that the WB will cost South Africa, Fifa has made a larger profit from this World Cup, than any before it.

FIFA has already reaped in R 25 Billion, simply from the sale of TV and media rights.

FIFA, which is registered in Switzerland as a non-profit organisation, made a profit of $ 196 million (about R1.5 Billion) in 2009, and has assets of more than R 7 Billion.

Psychological Infant Insecurity of Nelson Mandela

by Andrea Muhrrteyn
Why We Are White Refugees

The Principle of Monarchy

The Mandela myth was mainly the creation of the South African Communist Party. As the most important organizer of ANC politics within the country and internationally for thirty years, especially through the media, the SACP in the late 1950s and early 1960s set about the creation of a very specific cult of personality.

The 'M Plan' of 1953, in which 'M' stood for Mandela, did more to surround the leader's name with a mystique than reorganize the ANC on a cell-system, as it was supposed to do. Ten years later, alter the arrest of members of the High Command of Umkhonto we Sizwe at Lilliesleaf Farm in Rivonia, the emphasis was not principally on a collective call: 'Free the Rivonia nine.' The fate of an entire generation of political victims was absorbed into the fate of a single individual: 'Free Mandela.' Such personification of thousands of individual acts of imprisonment by the state might have been good media politics, but it was the negation of democratic accountability. It represented the introduction of the monarchical principle as a staple into modern South African political life. More urgently, it was a trivializing of politics which took the issue away from matters of substance and concentrated attention on the persona of one man.

Tshabalala Gatvol's Rainbow Skellums Survival Guide to South Africa WC 2010

Posted on 05.28.10
Film Reviews by Spling

If candid camera were taken as seriously as Pop Art… Leon Schuster would be its Andy Warhol. Besides taking the piss and literally taking a piss on his artwork, he’s dominated South African comedy film ever since Jamie Uys dropped a Coke bottle on N!xau’s head.

The side-splitting American comedy pursuit could only go so far with lawsuits flying around, yet the world of candid camera has developed its own raw sense of local flavour and hilarity under the wing of the accomplished Schuster. Now just like Warhol, Schuster isn’t fully appreciated by everyone… but it’ll be difficult for you to walk five steps in South Africa without meeting someone who remembers a funny moment with Schucks.

Andy Warhol was daring. Well, so is Leon Schuster. He’s resorted to wearing heavily padded prosthetic disguises in his latest outing, Schucks Tshabalala’s Survival Guide to South Africa 2010, but who can blame him if he wore a bullet-proof vest too! He’s taken at least a hundred snot-klaps in his day and that’s just off-camera. On-camera, Schuster has the ability of a full-time matchstick man, roping the victim in with his utterly bizarre set of South African characters and accents in a situation even more ridiculous. It’s a surreal scenario, like watching a car crash in slow motion as Schuster builds the mark up to such extreme emotion to have them hit him in the face or bolt like the last sheep in a slaughterhouse.

Schuster has become a household name, but more than that… he’s a legend – giving a country with 11 official languages something to laugh about is anything but easy. You can hurl sticks and stones at the brand of low-brow comedy in movies like There’s A Zulu On My Stoep, Mr. Bones and Mama Jack, but the numbers speak for themselves. Schucks Tshabalala’s Survival Guide to South Africa 2010 is a return to the candid camera stuff. The grand candid master must have realised how hungry people were for reality comedy in post-recession, pre-World Cup fervor. This must have also been spurred on by a reasonable attempt from a new candid franchise called Rainbow Skellums and it’s been a while since that 50/50 mix of story and candid camera in Oh Schucks, I’m Gatvol!

How FIFA corruption empowers global capital

Andrew Jennings, Amabhugane & ISS
Apr 29 2010

I am disappointed with FIFA. From where I am, it seems that today’s FIFA is not the same FIFA that you joined so many years ago. Where were the ethics, morals, honesty? As a child I wanted to become part of FIFA because of FIFA’s golden values. Unfortunately, today it seems that that hope is fading fast.[1]

Is this a cry of pain from a lone idealist, wearied by FIFA’s institutionalised
corruption?

Not at all. It’s a contrived letter to a venal senior FIFA official from his venal son, asking Daddy to demolish a roadblock on the route to FIFA’s golden treasury in Zurich.

Father and son – and another son – were engaging in an industrial-scale shakedown of a FIFA tournament. They had taken control of most of the lucrative contracts, but bureaucrats in FIFA were obstructing one worth $2 million – and the son stood to forfeit his commission. So this quaint letter from the son to the father (they live under the same roof so it may have been handed across the table at breakfast) was designed to increase the pressure to loosen FIFA’s purse-strings.

The father, one of FIFA’s eight vice-presidents, has gorged himself and his family for the last quarter of a century at the expense of football. We’ll never know how much has been diverted to them because of the absence of transparency at Sepp Blatter’s FIFA – but we may note that the father has risen from being a poorly paid teacher to become a multi-millionaire, almost all derived from his involvement with FIFA.

Soccer City

What it says about the murky world of government tenders

Rob Rose, Amabhugane & ISS
Apr 29 2010

FAST FACTS ON SOCCER CITY

  • The stadium cost approximately R3,4 billion to build and upgrade

  • It occupies 25 hectares on the east of Soweto.

  • It has a seating capacity of 94 000.

  • The playing area is 11 232 m2.

  • 80 000 m2 of concrete, 9 000 tons of reinforced steel, 7 100 tones of structural roof steel and 11 million bricks were used to construct it.

  • It has 228 (mainly corporate) suites, split evenly between two levels.

Introduction

Designed as an African calabash and dubbed ‘the melting pot’, Soccer City is the showpiece stadium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and is set to host the opening match, six further matches and the final match. With seating for 94 000 spectators and as the biggest stadium on the continent, it is rightly regarded as South Africa’s ‘national stadium’. It hasn’t come cheap, however.

At last count, Soccer City cost R3,4 billion to build and upgrade – funded by taxpayers through the National Treasury. While this was more than the R3,1 billion spent on Durban’s new Moses Mabhida Stadium,[1] it remains less than the R4,5 billion spent on Cape Town’s Green Point Stadium (see chapter in this publication, How Cape Town Got Its White Elephant).[2] But having spent so many tax rands building Soccer City, Johannesburg residents will have understandable expectations that the stadium will be able to provide some return on their investment.

SABC's R26-m 2010 WC Rental Bill

Niren Tolsi, Mail & Guardian
Apr 30 2010 13:32

The cash-strapped SABC plans to rent studio space at the Sandton Convention Centre during the World Cup -- at an astronomical mark up -- from a businessman linked to the broadcaster's head of Project 2010, Peter Kwele.

Graham Cooke, the president of World Travel Awards and a personal friend of both Kwele and his wife, Lindiwe Mahlangu-Kwele, the chief executive of Johannesburg Tourism, is the middleman from whom the SABC will rent the space.

At a cost of R26-million for 1800m2 for the duration of the event, Cooke will make a substantial profit on the deal -- according to the convention centre, its rates during the World Cup period have remained at R20 a square metre a day for exhibition hall one and R15 a square metre a day for its second exhibition hall. But in the sub-letting deal, the SABC will effectively pay about R480 a square metre a day.

Last year the SABC spurned the opportunity to rent space at Nasrec, the site of the opening and closing games. At €380 000 (about R3,7-million), the public broadcaster decided it was too expensive. The broadcaster had decided to downscale its presence at Nasrec, presenting only 12 matches from there and the rest from the SABC sports studio at Auckland Park.

But that's not what happened. In the new year the SABC general manager of sport, Oupa Mahlangu, issued an instruction calling for "big ideas", triggering a scramble for new broadcasting space. According to internal SABC documents in the possession of the Mail & Guardian, Kwele then went ahead and facilitated the deal with Cooke.

According to the documents, Kwele arranged to barter R1-million worth of advertising in a trade exchange for the use of the convention centre. On March 17 he passed on the handling of the trade exchange to Mahlangu after confirming to the technical team working on the project that it was in the region of R1-million.

INTRODUCTION

It was FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s first visit to the Mother City, but he knew exactly what he wanted from her.

When Ebrahim Rasool, then premier of the Western Cape, went to see Blatter at the five-star Arabella Sheraton Hotel on 22 November 2005, the visitor complimented Cape Town’s ‘spectacular scenery’, saying the city could be the ‘face’ of 2010 and host one of two semi-final matches. He came to the point: the city’s match venue should be at Green Point and not Newlands Stadium as envisaged when South Africa won the bid to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup 18 months earlier, or Athlone Stadium, favoured by the province and the city for its developmental potential. A brand new stadium.

ANC planning Zimbabwe style land invasions after 2010 World Cup

ANC planning Zimbabwe style land invasions after World Cup

29 March, 2010 01:40:00
Zimbabwe Mail

HARARE - South Africa’s ruling party ANC is planning Zimbabwean style land invasions after the FIFA 2010 World Cup, amid reports Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF and War Veterans Association will provide crucial support for the programme, sources in Zimbabwe said on Monday.

Controversial African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) President, Julius Malema, is set to visit Zimbabwe for a series of meetings with Zanu PF counterparts. The crucial meeting will go a long way in exchanging ideas and preparatory stages for both logistics and mobilisation for sporadic land invations.

A member of the Zanu PF security department told our reporter that the basis of Malema’s visit to Harare is a follow up to a secret discussion between President Mugabe and his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma, three weeks ago.

The source said when South African President Jacob Zuma visited Zimbabwe during the coalition talks between Zanu PF and the MDC, he discussed at length, matters ranging from the British media’s personal attacks on his private life during the recent visit to the United Kingdom and the need to expedite South African land reform.

It is at this stage that Mugabe converted Zuma into his camp, and the two leaders agreed to join hands in actively assisting each other in the land reform and indigenisation process.

This week, a high-level delegation in the South African security forces, intelligence and media with close links to the ruling party ANC are travelling to Zimbabwe and they will spend three months training at the Zimbabwe National Army’s Staff College.

A Hero's Tale

March 2010
Springbok CyberNewsLetter

Peter Hain is arrested in Downing Street in 1969. As a student he led the demonstrations that disrupted a Springbok rugby tour of the UK and led to the cancellation of a tour by the South African cricket team in 1970

Francis Bennion from Devon has recently written to remind us of the details of his successful prosecution against the odious Peter Hain in 1973. Mr. Bennion proved to be a true hero in this case, and spoke for the vast majority of British citizens who wished to maintain friendly sporting contacts with their kith and kin in Southern Africa. His selfless actions in this regard should never be forgotten :-
Our paths crossed in 1971 when I brought a private prosecution against him [Hain] for criminal conspiracy. He was tried at the Old Bailey and convicted. He lost his appeal, but has since prospered. He is now in the Cabinet.

I begin the story on 24 July 1964, when John Harris, an anti-apartheid campaigner and close friend of the Hain family, planted a fatal bomb at Johannesburg train station. He confessed and was hanged for murder. A little girl named Glynis Burleigh was injured in the blast. Her grandmother, born in Wales, was killed. Later, Glynis wrote to tell me the details. She said that while browsing the net she chanced to land on my website and liked the style. Of Peter Hain she said: 'It has often struck me as ironical that someone who has such close links to terrorism should have a standing in the present government'.

Some 5,000 protestors also marched from Oukasie township near Brits – north of Pretoria -- to the Madibeng municipal offices on the same day -- accusing ANC-officials of neglecting public housing projects and municipal services while wasting money on ‘wasteful football tournaments’ while ignoring the needs of the poorest of the poor languishing in filthy squatter camps. Communities are using the Soccer World Cup as leverage to accelerate service delivery in their areas, the Democratic Alliance in Gauteng said on Wednesday.

"An expectation was created, rightly or wrongly, around the Soccer World Cup and the advantages it would hold for South Africans by the government," said the party's local government spokesman in Gauteng, Fred Nel.

"Unfortunately communities misunderstood government's message and understood that their plight and need for water, sewerage, electricity and houses would be addressed as a result of the World Cup tournament coming to South Africa."

With just 92 days to go before kick-off, Nel warned of more violent protests and urged government to explain the advantages of the World Cup to local communities to clarify any misunderstanding.

This would also calm protests in Gauteng.
