“Almost no one, black or white, left or right, ever says anything but rubbish about race.” So writes Gedahlia Braun in a remarkable book that is anything but rubbish. Racism, Guilt and Self-Deceit is one of those rare books so full of insight and good sense that they are a pleasure to write about. Since the subject is race, this book has not found a commercial publisher, but it can be ordered directly from the author.

Dr. Braun has lived in Africa with only brief interruptions since 1976 and in South Africa since 1988. This book, in the form of a chronological journal, describes how contact with the dark continent quickly dispelled his liberal views and led to startling but plausible conclusions that most Americans—even readers of AR—are likely to find surprising.

I don't know if these people who are getting so upset about Zuma, thought they were electing a Saint.. but he had 19 children, and had been married four times, and had admitted sex with his friends daughter under suspicious circumstances. Everyone said it was 'Zulu culture'.

Who on earth did they think they were electing? Mother Theresa? Their outrage is valid... but it is a little hypocritical, and at least nine months delayed. If they had done their homework prior to the election, they would have known whom they were voting for.

I say to all the ladies out there: think long and hard before you defend this sort of behaviour. If you want rights, you need to stand up for them.

Let us be clear upfront, your philandering ways have nothing to do with culture, they have all to do with a man with no values, no principles, no morals who only views women as objects to satisfy your seemingly uncontrollable appetite.

Remember the perceptions in the west that African men in particular are just a bunch of horny stallions, who cannot control their urges, lazy, corrupt and like easy money and have nothing meaningful to contribute to human advancement and development. How does our generation defend this insult with people like you around?

Why Africa is Hell: What is the Difference Between a Tourist and a Racist?

White Zimbabweans used to tell a joke—what is the difference between a tourist and a racist? The answer—about a week.

Few seem to joke any more. Indeed, the last time anyone laughed out there was over the memorable headline “Banana Charged with Sodomy” (relating to the Reverend Canaan Banana and his alleged proclivities). Zimbabwe was just the latest African state to squander its potential, to swap civil society for civil strife and pile high its corpses. Then the wrecking virus moves on and a fresh spasm of violence erupts elsewhere. Congo, Ivory Coast, Sudan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, even Kenya. Take your pick, for it is the essence of Africa, the recurring A-Z of horror. And as surely as Nelson Mandela took those steps from captivity to freedom, his own country will doubtless shuffle into chaos and ruin.

Whenever apartheid is held up as a blueprint for evil, I want to mention Bokassa snacking on human remains, Amin clogging a hydro-electric dam with floating corpses, the President of Equatorial Guinea crucifying victims along the roadway from his airport.

I once met the son of a Liberian government minister and asked if he had seen video-footage of his former president Samuel Doe being tortured to death. ‘Of course’, he replied with a smile. ‘Everyone has’. They cut off the ears of Doe and force-fed them to him. His successor, the warlord Charles Taylor, was elected in a landslide result using the campaign slogan He killed my ma, he killed my pa, but I will vote for him. Nice people. Liberia was founded and colonised by black Americans to demonstrate what slave stock could achieve. They certainly showed us. Forgive my heretical belief that had a black instead of a white tribe earlier come to dominate South Africa, its opponents would not have been banished to Robben island. They would have been butchered and buried there.

Justice Malala is certainly one of the few black mainstream journalists in South Africa (that I know of) who does not subscribe to the black ANC mobjustice paradigm; nor to the liberal multicultural politically correct obedience school.

As he bravely spoke against the Culture of Corruption, Black Politicians Fiddle as South Africa Burns, he once again (below) speaks against the Culture of Cruelty to Animals:

Corruption in the public service is so rife, so endemic, so all-pervasive, that ordinary South Africans regard it as the normal way of doing things. In the municipalities, virtually no tender is awarded without some politician’s or official’s relative, friend or business associate being in on the game. If they are not, a bribe is paid. In queues for government services, even when dealing with the police, bribes change hands as a matter of course.

This is the culture. If these individuals are not turning government business towards their own enterprises, or those they own through their relatives and friends, then they are taking bribes to pass business to certain businesses.

That culture starts at the top and permeates the whole system. Morality, values, have all disappeared. It is everyone for himself. That is why ministers believe they have a “right” to put extras in their official cars, such as television sets. It is the culture.

That is why so many people are turning to crime. The example is set by their political leaders, by the very same councillors who should be shepherding them on the path of law and order.

The following report Witchcraft and the State in South Africa, is provided as additional evidentiary context to South African Human Rights Commission Complaint WC-2009-0455BS (PDF) which indicts various ANC officials for endorsing Occult Phallic Slave and Cannon Fodder Breeding Procreation Population Policies. In this document the ANC elite actively endorsed “Operation Production” practices; i.e. coercing young girls to produce cannon fodder (babies) for the ANC struggle for hegemony:

All those opposing the wishes of the young men were reminded, that it was every woman’s obligation to give birth to new “soldiers”, in order to replace those warriors killed in the liberation struggle. The idiom of the adolescents referred to these patriotic efforts as “operation production”. Because of exactly this reason it was forbidden for the girls to use contraceptives. Muti murder is defined as a murder in which body parts are removed from a live victim for the sole purpose of using the victim's body parts medicinally. These body parts are then often mixed with other ingredients or used alone to make a medicine called muti. Muti is a Zulu (umuthi) word meaning medicine. The victim usually dies as a result of blood loss from the wounds. While muti murders have occurred throughout history in South African culture, little is known about them and little research exists on the phenomenon. The term muti murder has been used interchangeably with the term ritual or sacrificial murder, often adding to confusion in terminology and definitions regarding these types of cases. This paper provides an overview of muti murder, explains the context in which these types of murder occur, defines the offenders and victims involved, and provides guidelines for investigating these types of murders.

How does democracy fare when the people governed insist they live in a world with witches? If the government of a people afflicted by witchcraft refuses to punish witches, how does it avoid becoming alienated from the perceived needs of its people or, worse, seen as being in league with witches? In Soweto, South Africa, the constant threat of violent crime, the increase in black socio-economic inequality, the AIDS pandemic, and a widespread fear of witchcraft have converged to create a pervasive sense of insecurity among citiens and a unique public policy problem for government.

In “Witchcraft, Violence, and Democracy in South Africa,” Adam Ashforth examines how people in Soweto and other parts of post-apartheid South Africa manage their fear of 'evil forces' such as witchcraft. Ashforth examines the dynamics of insecurity in the everyday life of Soweto at the turn of the twenty-first century. He develops a new framework for understanding occult violence as a form of spiritual insecurity and documents new patterns of interpretation attributing agency to evil forces. Finally, he analyzes the response of post-apartheid governments to issues of spiritual insecurity and suggests how these matters pose severe long-term challenges to the legitimacy of the democratic state.

This week's bizarre Canadian ruling giving Brandon Huntley asylum, unfortunately, wrongly conflates the image of a lawless and anarchical SA.

In SA, a major way of problem-solving is mob rule. When construction workers go on strike they torch the trucks and damage the site. When municipal workers strike they burn cars, damage property and dump rubbish. Some police toyi-toyi and even shoot at each other. This use of mobs and the impunity of the anonymity of mass action lead to a breakdown in the rule of law. This, as academics have observed, is a direct result of the merging of militarised struggle politics with unions and community organisations.

The ANC and UDF had the strategy of ungovernability that was used to incite the youth and people of the townships to violently rise up against their oppression. The townships saw a lot of violence in recent times as apartheid began to unravel. The violence included mob justice in the form of necklacing, shooting and other violent acts against those deemed to be the enemy. The unforeseen legacy of the strategy of ungovernability is what we are seeing today.
